May 19th, by anonymous reply  May 15, '04 2:05 PM
IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

Understanding Gas Prices, by anonymous reply  Sep 10, '03 4:20 PM
In order to udnerstand gas prices, you would probably need a degree or diploma in Con Artistry. Since our education system does not teach those courses in carricula, I would expect gas prices are best understood by oil company executives and their pals.

But for most Canadians we are just trying to get by, paying fair and acceptable prices for the goods and services we purchase. And when some greedy corporations join hands and try to squeeze the life out of our livelihood, our hands are tied by the legal system on what we can and cannot do.

Still we have hope. We have joined http://www.cansave.org to unite the people of Canada against the rising prices of fuel and to be able to save all the money we can. You can join http://www.cansave.org too. The site is in its infancy, but the membership is growing fast. We will take back our lives from those that try to milk every penny out of the Canadian consumer.

Do you REALLY know how much money is made from retail gas sites? I doubt it.

the cost of refining?, by anonymous reply  Mar 16, '03 1:43 PM
Does anyone know how much crude oil it takes to produce 1 litre of gas?

Re: the cost of refining?, by anonymous reply  Jul 22, '03 10:10 PM
Well, it depends on the crude oil you use, and the efficiency of a refinery.

A good typical average, though, might be about 60% gas from crude, and the rest is kerosene, diesel, bunker fuel, ashphalt and waste goop at the bottom. With some work, you can adjust that split a bit, but only so far.

So, it takes, maybe, 1 2/3 litres of crude to make a litre of gas. That's very, very rough, though. Some thick crude (like Alaskan crude) can only make 40-50% gas, while some real light stuff can make, maybe 80%.
On the other hand, you can "hydro-crack" some heavy crude into more gas with the right equipment. Costs a hundred million or so, but you can do it.

Hope that helps with an answer.

Prices on the web, by anonymous reply  Jan 22, '03 1:53 PM
There should be a consensus about posting prices. For example the pump price should be posted on the website. If there are in-store coupons issued by Coop,Safeway or Superstore or Canadian Tire Money then these particulars could be stated in the location section

To Gastips.com - Merry Christmas from the oil companies, by anonymous reply  Dec 26, '01 12:11 PM
I hope that everyone enjoys the recent price increases we have instituted right before the holidays so that at least we, the oil companies, can profit some more at your expense. Thank you for contributing to our bottom line. It really helps to fatten up our pockets, especially during this time of year, becasue we have just the same expenses as you do, so why should we pay for it? We would like to show you our heart felt appreciation for your assistence in bending over so that we can screw you over time and again. Just remember to go to the drug store to pick up some Vaseline. It personally helps in two ways - it'll make things slide in easier and, more importantly, it's a petroleum product, manufactured with the assistence of the petroleum industry. We need the profits here too.

Just remember to bend over a second time right before New Years.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year . . . . .

Your local petroleum dealers association.

ATTENTION - Know the meaning of "VOLUME CORRECTED TO..", by Mr. Fight Greed reply  Nov 24, '01 6:40 PM
Remember that sign on the pump saying "Volume corrected to 15 C"? That means you are getting less at the pump if you gas up at a temperature below +15 C! So, if you filled up 10 litres at colder temperatures, you got less than that! In other words, most of us are getting screwed 9 months of the year!

Knowledge is power. Let us stick it to the parasites. Fill up whenever the temperature gets above 15 C and avoid visiting gas stations when it is any colder. Let us pull out all the stops and show them who is controlling the purse strings!

Calgary froze over, by anonymous reply  Dec 11, '01 10:20 PM
Considering you live in Calgary, you'd better hope for a lot of chinooks or you ain't going to be filling up very often! Gas is so cheap now, what are you whining about? Grow up and get a life and count your blessings you ungrateful person.

Ridiculous!, by Mr. Fight Greed reply  Nov 24, '01 6:35 PM
Oil has dipped below $20 for a barrel and Americans are paying 89 cents a gallon in some places - but here in Calgary, they just increased the price from 49.4 to 53.9:((( A rotating boycott is in order. I have not filled my cars in months, as I used to in the old days. No more. I'll use my transit pass everywhere and park the cars rather than pay these greedy bastards.

Suggestions, by anonymous reply  Nov 24, '01 6:31 PM
First of all, please add the date. I see a couple of Saturdays here, and I am not sure which is which. Rather than just having a day, identifying the exact date would be better.
Secondly, there are some anonymous posters wasting everyone's time by playing pranks posting nonexistent prices. You're better off preventing this in some way. Your credibility will suffer if don't take action.
Thirdly, delete anything older than a week as gas prices change faster than Calgary's weather.
Thanks.

It all fits together now. You ARE an Easterner. I know the type...LOUD, CRUDE, IGNORANT, FOUL MOUTHED, little people from Toronto (The Centre of the Earth) that think the world is watching them for advice. Other than that, they are great people. I even know one or two.
So when you grow up, where are you going to go to High School.
Either that or you are an Westerner. One of those LOUD, CRUDE, IGNORANT, FOUL MOUTHED, little rednecks that thinks that the world is interested in them. Only thing that the world is wondering about is...where in the U.S.of A. are they from. Other than that they too are great people, I even know 1 or 2 of them.
So where did a lady like myself develope her roots, integrety, wisdom, and patience for little abnormalities like yourself (and you are a minority)?
Anyone not like yourself can simply see that........

I AM CANADIAN!!!!
